Through one-on-one training, help students increase their spoken English skills, learn about American culture and hear the Gospel for the first time. Cultural Information: The area is comprised of 22 different people groups. These groups are scattered in small villages that dot the hillsides. Central market towns are located among and between 50-100 small villages. Larger cities are grouped among these market towns. Clothing is similar to young people in the west - t-shirts and jeans. There is adequate shopping available for basic daily items. We request that women dress modestly and both women and men dress in decent, casual summer attire. Geographic Information: The setting is the mountainous, sub-tropical area of East Asia. The area is 93% mountainous with gorgeous rice terraces. Summers are mildly humid. It can be hot in the day time, but cooling off in the evenings. Available Housing: Housing will be in dorm rooms. Dorm rooms will generally have 2-4 bunk beds per room. These rooms will generally have an adjoining bathroom. Bathrooms will have private showers, private squatty potties and sinks. Housing and bathrooms will be basic. Health Considerations: The camps will be held at elevations between 4,000 and 7,000 feet. You will need to be able to handle the higher altitude. Additionally, there will not be elevators in the schools. They will be multistory and climbing stairs will be a daily necessity.
